Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
As we start spring in one of the strangest seasons I can recall, many of us are grasping for normalcy. Routine seems harder to come by, structure perhaps out of our reach. However, amidst the oddities of our new norm, there are constants in our view if we will take a moment to look.
The sun has risen every day since we began this quarantine experience. Each evening, it sinks steadily back into the horizon. Every morning, I am awakened by the birds making their presence known. They know nothing of viruses or stock market woes.
His mercies are new every morning.
Easter is just around the corner and many of us will spend it in ways we couldn’t have imagined mere weeks ago. Families in dresses and pastel ties neatly seated in a sanctuary swapped out for sweats and online church services on our couches. Large Easter dinner gatherings traded for immediate family only.
Despite the changes in our circumstances, environment or economy, the message of Easter has not changed. In the middle of uncertainty, we serve a risen Savior. In the midst of this current pandemic, we have a God who loves us so much he sent His son to die for our sins. His compassion never fails.

Our human nature makes it hard not to focus on the unknowns in our midst. It’s all too easy to worry about what we cannot control in a world where things are going awry. But God is in control. These events, or those to come, are not a surprise to Him. He is not caught off guard or short on supply of mercies for each of us.
Challenge- While everything may appear unhinged and unpredictable, God’s promises and provision remain steadfast. Take five minutes to list everything that remains ‘known’ even in the middle of our current unusual circumstances. Thank God for the compassion and mercies we can count on each and every day.
Lord, we are grateful that when our patience and sanity seem to run out, your mercies never do. You have been faithful and will remain so tomorrow and forever. Help us to remember your compassion and love for us when outward circumstances make us feel uncertain.
