Be still and know that I am with you. Psalm 46:10
What a few weeks these have been. Most of us are experiencing a kind of existence we could not have imagined just a short time ago. If we allow, this season is ripe for high tensions, volatile emotions and less than loving behavior.
Many of us are glued to our televisions and smart phones. We’re making plans for food prep and home schooling. Those of us still dealing with cold temperatures are trying to handle the incredibly close proximity with our family.
Planning and preparation are responsible and natural reactions. But if you’re like me, you may be trying to control things outside your normal jurisdiction.
God says, “Be still and know that I am with you.” We are reminded we are not alone. He has gone before us and resides with us in what can only be described as a mess. He calls us to be still. Not productive, not obsessed, not controlling.
Still. Not moving or making a sound.
I can assure you there has been little stillness in my home. What about yours? Have you taken time to step away, clear your mind of the constant worrisome chatter and present yourself completely still before the Lord?
It is easier for us to hear the voice of God when our hearts are open and our minds still and prepared to receive.
When is the last time you sat quietly, even if only for two minutes, to set your mind and heart on Jesus? Do you have a space to steal away for stillness?
Challenge- Find a spot in your home where you can spend a few minutes (longer if you’re able) to still your mind and spirit to fully remind yourself of God’s presence.
Lord, you are with us and we are grateful for your presence. Help to quiet the constant chatter of our minds. Please silence our worries and allow us to come to you in stillness so we be better prepared to hear what You have to share.
